Wedding menu: managing allergies, dietary requirements and preferences

By Admin·

Dietary constraints should be treated as organizational information, not as a surprise on the wedding day. The right time to collect them is generally the RSVP.

Ask only for useful information

Add a simple question to the form: allergies, vegetarian or vegan diet, exclusion of certain foods for religious reasons or other significant restrictions. Avoid turning the RSVP into an endless questionnaire.

Distinguish preference from allergy

An allergy may require specific precautions in preparation and service. Therefore transmit the information to the caterer accurately and early enough.

Count special meals

Don't settle for a general note. Make a summary by table or by name so staff can identify the meals without asking guests directly.

Plan for discreet service

A person should not have to explain their diet in front of the whole table. A discreet marking or information passed to the head waiter can make service easier.

Check with the caterer

Ask how special menus are prepared and whether there is a risk of cross-contamination when the information is important for a guest's safety.
